Precipitated Calcium Carbonate
Precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) is an innovative product, derived from lime, which has many industrial applications. PCC is made by hydrating high-calcium quicklime, and then reacting the resulting slurry, or “milk-of-lime”, with carbon dioxide. The resulting product is extremely white and typically has a uniform narrow particle size distribution. PCC is available in numerous crystal morphologies and sizes, which can be tailored to optimize performance in a specific application.
Applications of PCC
Adhesives & Sealants
Precipitated calcium carbonates are used as fillers in adhesives and sealants. However, because of their much smaller sizes they are mainly
used as the primary rheological additive in high- performance products. PCC add reinforcement and make the product stronger.

Food & Pharmaceuticals
PCC is used as dietary calcium, mostly in liquid products where the very small particle size is valuable. Many medicines and cosmetics contain PCC, as the base material of pills, or for bulking of liquid medicines, ointments or creams. PCC is used in toothpaste as a viscosity aid and mild abrasive.

Paints & Inks
Precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) is commonly used in paint and inks as extenders to screen printing inks with PCC can improve quality whilst reducing costs.
PCC is used for similar applications to GCC but the particle size is much finer and more closely controlled, allowing PCC to be used more for paper coating and surface finishing. PCC can be supplied coated with additives to improve gloss or aid bonding within the paper.

PCC is used as a fine and very consistently controlled filler/extender and also to help control flow and moulding characteristics of fine components. PCC also has a significant effect on impact strength in rigid PVC
PCC as a filler allows the substitution of part of the polymeric agents, conferring dimensional stability and hardness to the foams. Use of PCC as a filler doesn’t effect morphological, mechanical and positron analysis of this products reinforcement.
High surface area PCC used in Agricultural products as a carrier for liquid insecticide and herbicides. It can also be used as weighing agent to reduce drifting of highly toxic insecticides. PCC can also be used as an active ingredient stabilizer in some suspension based agricultural formulation and occasionally as binder in granulated formulation.
